Oregon’s coastal rivers receive runs of three different species of Pacific Salmon; Chinook (aka King), Coho (aka Silver) and Chum (aka Dog) salmon. These three species can be fished for in the rivers throughout the fall. Pictured on left is a Coho salmon from a Tillamook Bay tributary.
The quintessential gamefish species of the northwest is the steelhead. We are lucky to have a strong winter run of these mythical creatures on Oregon’s north coast. Technically speaking, steelhead are a super-sized and super-charged rainbow trout that lives most of its life in the ocean before returning to our beautiful rivers.
We chase these fish in a stunning rainforest setting often not more than a 90 minute drive from the Portland metro area. Most of the time these fishing trips entail a drift boat ride down a river canyon near the Oregon coast. Fishing for these big ocean-going fish in such a setting is an unparalleled way to experience the wild wonder of the Pacific Northwest.
